Ambassdor

About two weeks ago I received a letter from Bob Shircliff the president of Jewish Hospital & St. Mary's Healthcare, which is who I work for. The letter explained that I had been nominated by my peers for an "Ambassador" award for my hard work and dedication, it also invited me to a breakfast with him and others who also received the same recognition. I was very honored to receive this award, especially considering I have only been with the company for about 9 months.
(I'm sitting in the front row, far right)
So, be encouraged! I didn't even know this award exsisted until I got the letter...it is a great reminder that people do notice you putting effort forth and showing dedication to your work, even if they don't say it to you every day.

back to "normal"

ok...sorry i didn't update sooner, but i'm sure you all understand.

we finally got our power back on saturday!!! i was literally jumping up and down because i was so excited to have electricity again.

soooo this week has been super busy with getting everything back in order: loads of laundry, restocking the freezer/fridge, cleaning from the messes we made when we couldn't see!, catching up on e-mail, googler reader, and facebook, etc.

not to mention the craziness at work! the whole week that we were without power i could hardly focus on anything....all i cared about was getting my power back and figuring out what we would eat for dinner, and finding out which of our friends did have power so i could invite myself over to shower and dry my hair (yes, i was being selfish, but i was desperate!).

but all in all it wasn't that bad...seriously! we were able to hang out and get to know our friends better not to mention all the extra time braden and i had together, i have taken up knitting again, i've learned that if you are desperate, you will do anything to watch monday night football (so desperate in fact, that our friends hooked up their tv to a generator!).

it's crazy how much we rely on electricity, crazy i tell you! because i know how crazy i got when we didn't have it. try doing your make-up by candle light in the wee hours of the morning or picking out an outfit for that matter! 6 days without power was rough, and i'm glad it's over!

things are finally getting back to normal...whatever normal is!

and the winner is....

angie! congratulations on winning my cards (see previous post)! : )

Power Outage!

We've been without power since about 1:30 yesterday afternoon due to a huge windstorm that hit us in the Kentuckiana area. Winds as high as 75 mph swept over leaving many trees, power lines, etc. down. They've been saying on the news that around 301,000 people have been without power and they've recently restored around 100,000.
Worst case senario is that we'll be without power for 10-14 days. That's crazy! I can barely funtion right now, and it's only been 24 hours!
We have no lights, stove, microwave, nothing...and I keep telling myself that we are so blessed to still have a roof over our heads and our own bed to sleep in. My prayers (click here) are with those in Texas, where the storm hit way worse than us here.

Tide-you never listen

Check out this commercial:

Pretty funny huh?

The guy in this commercial is our friend Paras Tiwari. He plays on our indoor soccer team with us on Friday nights (which, by the way, I should mention that he should probably stick to acting! haha! j/k!). Last night they aired this commercial during America's Got Talent. We had a dinner party to celebrate and watch it together with a bunch of friends. It's like we know someone famous now...but it was only like 30 seconds! haha!

another freebie link!

click here for a chance to win these free plates: In other happenings, this weekend I made these flower pens for my desk at work: I hope it will cut back on the amount of pens that are "borrowed" from my desk each week...who's going put one of these in their pocket??? ha!
They're super easy to make. Directions here, I suggest using green floral tape to make them look more "real".

Enjoy!

No Labor Weekend!

I can't believe Labor Day has already come and gone! It seems like just last week Braden was starting his classes at Southern and now it's almost time for fall break! Crazy!

We've definitely been staying busy with work, school, and having fun. This past weekend we went home to St. Louis to visit friends and family before everything starts getting really crazy busy with Braden's full load of classes. He's taking four classes, one a day Mon.-Thurs. He's taking Old Testament and the other three are counseling classes.

I've started up again with my SWI classes. I'm taking Essentials I & II and the book that we've started reading is called "Lose the Halo, Keep the Wings" by Virginia Wilson. It's a very practical book that is perfect for those women out there who need some insight on being a wife of a husband who is or is going to be in ministry. Virginia shares her own personal stories about what she has learned through the years along with giving some insight as to what she wished she knew when first starting out in ministry. She also gives some practical advice on how to handle tough or not-so-pleasant situations that may arise in ministry life. I recommend this book.In a couple of weeks we'll be going home to St. Louis again for Braden' cousin's wedding, and for the much anticipated 2008 annual NANC conference. We're both really excited about being able to go this year. It works out perfectly, because Braden will be on fall break from his classes the same week that the conference is. He's already asked off work from UPS...now I just have to somehow get off from my new position too....hmmm...

Until next time, go check out my etsy shop...I've added some things within the past month.
