What size of crochet hook did you use?

Casey said...

Oops! Forgot to include that, sorry. I used an H hook (5.00mm). And the yarn is Lionbrand Homespun.

Thank you so much! I'm having a baby boy and want to make him this to match his fuzzy teddy bear hat I already made him. So cute! Good job and thanks for sharing!!!

Thanks so much for this FREE pattern! I just used it to make a pink one for my photographer friend. I'm wondering if you have any measurements of your finished product. I'm using a different type of yarn and used a slightly larger hook to compensate and, although it looks like the right size, i'm wondering if it really is. Any help would be great since I dont have a newborn to try the size! :)

Kitska - I sent it off to my photographer before I thought to take measurements, sorry! Once I get it back, I'll be sure to post it on here.

Attempting to make this adorable cover! A few questions?
Are you counting the chain as the first stitch?
Crochet in the same stitch as chain at beginning of the row?
Crochet in the chain at the end of the row?

Sorry for so many questions lol I'm still a beginner on reading patterns!

Lacey B. said...

Hi I'm Lacey- I'm 13 and I've made a million of these diaper covers. but the reason I have is because my friend's mother photographs babies that have passed away during birth if the parents want her to sort of as a memorial photo. So I made some hats from someone else and i make one of these matching diaper covers and I sell them 20$ a set. I was wondering if that was okay with you- I'm really sorry if it isn't and I'll use another if it's not. Thank you- goodbye! ;)

Casey said...

asheborochik - on the first 3 rows you will have 45 across, then after that you will have 23 and will decrease 2 stitches for every row. hope that helps!

Lacey B. - That is fine! I'd love to see pictures of your finished diaper covers though! :) If you have a ravelry account, here is my link: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/newborn-diaper-cover-2

Lovely diaper cover! Just made one! Super easy and adorable!!! THANK YOU! (:

Teri said...

Hey was just wondering if you ever got it back to take the measurements, Thanks for the free pattern it came out great just looks a little small and as I don't have a baby to try it on I need the measurements. Cheers :)

Lacey B. said...

Wow great thanks. I don't have a ravelry account but I'll try to get one soon. Also I'll try and get you pictures ASAP. Bye :3

Casey said...

Teri - Right when I got mine back, I sold it to a friend! Sorry, I'll have to make a new one :) It looks smaller than you'd think, but I put my up against a newborn diaper (the swaddlers kind) and it covers it.

Lacey B. - looking forward to seeing your pics! :)

Deblk said...

I love it, what a great idea, thanks for sharing :)

Was wondering if when you sew on the button you go through both layers ~ the flap and the underpiece, as don't see how the underpiece would stay without it?

thanks!

Unknown said...

So excited to try this. I am making a hat, baby booties and this cover for a friend. Her baby shower is next werkend and I can't wait for her to see it. Thank you lots!

Anonymous said...

Thank you so very much, I really do appreciate your instuctions. I'm making my 2nd one now.

Jennifer said...

Quick question, do u single crochet around the whole diaper cover or just finish the last row with sc?

Nikki said...

I am trying to make this with double strands of yarn (which would make it 8 ply and a much bigger hook, size N) a chain of 45 would be way too big. Any suggestions on how to do that?

Casey said...

Jen - I went all the way around to give it a more "finished" look.

Nikki - I haven't tried it with thicker yarn so I wouldn't be much help.

Sarah said...

I made this the other day and was just making sure that when finished, the front of the diaper cover should sorta come to a point? the last few rows makes it smaller and smaller correct? Thanks!! It is super adorable!

Anonymous said...

What does TOG stand for?

Amy said...

Thank you sooo much for the pattern. I wanted to make this for a friend's baby girl. Yours came out great! I pinned it. :)

Anonymous said...

TOG stands for together - it's a double crochet decrease like a slip stitch is a single crochet decrease. There are some good instructional videos on YouTube that can show you how to do it if you don't already know. It was easier for me to learn by watching someone than reading instructions. Good luck!

Casey said...

Sarah - The front does get smaller, but it doesn't come to a point. If you have a ravelry account, I added the link at the bottom of the post. Check it out to see more pictures of other people's diaper covers.

Amy - So glad you like it! Enjoy! :)

Kristi said...

Thank you for this pattern! How many stitches would I increase it to fit a four month old?? I made a few of these with a matching hat you can see them here: http://knottyknotty.blogspot.com/2012/02/little-hat-and-matching-diaper-cover.html

Casey said...

Kristi - Thanks for the link! Yours are adorable! I have not made one of these for a larger size - sorry I am no help!

Anonymous said...

Can I use this as a base to make newborn diaper cover/ hat sets to sell? In busy mom home crafter quantities. Lol I will probably add more embelishments and things. -Lindsey

Kathy said...

I was wondering if you can use this over cloth diapers or just disposables?

Thanks, Kathy

KnitlessKnitter said...

Hi! This is Lindsey again, I love these diaper covers! I have made one with a matching hat and am about to start a hat for another. I am going to blog about it once I finish 1-2 more sets, just to show a variety of options :) I gave ruffly edges to the baby girl one, it's so sweet. Here is my blog url www.knitlessknitter.blogspot.com I will ler ypu know when I put them up.

Casey said...

Kathy - I wouldn't reccommend using one of these covers over cloth diapers. The fit would be too loose to hold moisture in. I have, however, used this free pattern before for my babies and it worked great! http://crochetcastle.blogspot.com/2009/04/easiest-crochet-wool-soaker-pattern.html

KnitlessKnitter - Thanks so much I will check it out!

i was wandering because i am at the end and i got kind of stuck when it says to DCTOG 12-19 what does that mean i know what the DCTOG means im just stuck at the 12-19 part and i would like to finnish it for my aunt she is having a baby and she wanted one :)

I am working on one of these but to fit my 2t sized 13 month old lol except I am using it as a bikini bottom. I wanted to use peaches n cream cotton yarn & a g hook (same as for my own crochet bikini) so it'd be tight & not too thick. Once i get completely done I'd be more than happy to type it up

I do the ch 2 turn dc2tog, its, the dc 20 sts that gets me. I count 20 sts but I have no more room left except the sc from row 4.

Hi there.. very cute diaper cover! I am a beginner at crochet so I dont know all the rules yet. I am having trouble with #7. When i Ch 2 and DC2TOG do i put it in the very first ch or skip one? After I DC2TOG do i put it in the next ch or skip? When I DC and then do the DC2TOG do i put the DC2TOG in the next ch or skip one? Sounds repetitive but im a newbie at this.. Thanks!

will a soft baby yarn work with this pattern?

Kimberly said...

Great pattern, can anyone please let me know a conversion to make this using a baby yarn, light level 3, using a 4mm G hook. (Instead of the bulky yarn with H). I would be so appreciative, I tried to double the pattern but it's way too large for a newborn when doubled. I am a beginner. ;) Thank you so much.

hi, I was wondering what to do for a 12 month diaper cover

Anonymous said...

I made one of these a few days ago.. WOW its WAY TO SMALL!!! My daughter had a 7 pnd 8 oz baby girl. It does not fit at all. I then compared to a newborn diaper, laying it out OVER the diaper and UNDER the diaper, its not even close to the correct size.

Anonymous said...

On row 4 after you turn, do you slip st INTO the 10 sts? I'm a little bit lost?

Thank you for making a newborn diaper cover and posting it for free. I'm making a baby set and this will go perfect with the set I'm making. When I'm finished making the cover, I'll go on your Ravelry account and post a picture. :-)

This might be a dumb question, but I am new to this. What is DC2TOG stand for?

The first 3 rows are actually 44 not 45 if you start your first row in stitch 2 from the hook.

I was wondering what I should do for around 6 to 9 months making for my niece she is a big 5 month old is there any type of formula I can use

Could you provide some insight on how to make the pattern bigger?

12-19 means DC2tog for rows 12-19.

Jennysci33 said...

Oh mylanta...this pattern is one big hot mess. I'm pretty sure it can be figured out by those who know better but for others that may just be beginners....no way....I'm horrible at math too but I don't even think the math adds up when decreasing rows and such. I think in the future, it's nice to continually list the number of rows that you should have for every row to but at the very least, let someone know if you're using the chain as the stitch or not....typically,if you chain 46 in a starting chain (single crochet), you will end up with 45 as your final when crocheting in the 2nd chain from hook.

Anonymous said...

Thanks for the larger size, do you know what the actual pattern would be for a 3-6 mos? I appreciate it! If not, no biggie, I can trial and error! :-)
